Job Description

Wigan Council is seeking an experienced, innovative, and creative Team Manager to lead one of its Duty Teams within the Duty and Assessment Service. This is a fast-paced, dynamic role based at College Avenue, Wigan, paying £42 per hour. The post runs from 17 August to 26 October 2026.

As Team Manager you will work alongside five existing Duty Teams to ensure effective service delivery across the borough. You will drive good practice, support social workers managing complex and high-risk cases, and ensure safeguarding standards are consistently met. The Duty Service completes initial Children and Family assessments in a timely manner; transfer points include the initial child protection case conference, the first CLA review, the first PLO meeting, and the third Child in Need meeting.

You will bring excellent knowledge of relevant legislative frameworks and legal proceedings, and will work in partnership with children, young people, and families to promote good outcomes. To be considered you must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience at team manager level in a children’s duty or assessment setting.
