Job Description
Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking an experienced and qualified Senior Practitioner to join their Children’s Services division, based at Ty Penallta, Hengoed (CF82 7PG). This is a locum opportunity paying £33.00–£43.60 per hour, commencing 10 August 2026.
In this senior role you will manage a complex mixed caseload within statutory timescales, providing expert practice leadership within your team. You will deputise for the Team Manager when required, allocating work, chairing planning meetings and core groups, and overseeing day-to-day operational functions in the manager’s absence.
Key responsibilities include direct supervision and mentoring of Social Workers, students, volunteers and support workers; contributing to performance monitoring; ensuring effective multidisciplinary partnership working; representing the directorate in panel and court processes; and identifying unmet need arising from assessments.
Candidates must hold a Diploma or Degree in Social Work and be registered with Social Care Wales (or equivalent UK regulatory body). A minimum of two years’ post-qualification fieldwork experience in children’s services is required, along with experience of court proceedings, chairing meetings, and multiagency working. A full UK driving licence and use of a motor vehicle insured for business purposes is essential.
