Job Description

An exciting locum opportunity has arisen for a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join Oldham Council’s Assessment and Intervention Team, based in Oldham town centre (OL1 1HD), running from 26 June to 30 September 2026 at £39 per hour.

This is a locality-based team of six — five social workers and one advanced practitioner — undertaking assessment and intervention work spanning duty response through to child protection and first hearings. The team covers the full spectrum from initial duty response to S47 enquiries, Child in Need work, and early court proceedings.

Key responsibilities include:
– Undertaking duty days and responding to S47 enquiries
– Convening Child in Need meetings and applying SMART planning to drive positive outcomes for families
– Completing child and family assessments that clearly identify risks and strengths
– Providing direct intervention to children and families
– Maintaining accurate case records including contingency planning
– Supporting colleagues to ensure children remain safe

Working hours are 8.40am–5pm with flexibility and TOIL available. On-site parking is available at a reduced monthly permit rate.

Candidates must have five years of verifiable references and gaps in employment history will be checked. Importantly, suppliers must complete the DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions and attach the completed file to the candidate record prior to submission — applications without this will not be progressed.
