Job Description
Bolton Council is seeking a Childrens Advanced Practitioner to lead workforce development activity within Children’s Services, based in Tonge Moor, Bolton (BL2 2JW). This is a full-time locum post (37 hours per week, hybrid working with regular office presence required) running from 6 July to 11 September 2026, paying £40 per hour.
This role sits at the heart of practice development, co-ordinating and supporting entry and career progression pathways including the ASYE programme for NQSWs, Practice Educators, Apprentices, Students, and Return to Social Work candidates. Key responsibilities include delivering reflective supervision to NQSWs and Apprentices, completing formal direct observations of practice, mentoring apprentices in partnership with university skills coaches, and supporting the PE programme through quality assurance of portfolios and masterclass direction.
You will co-ordinate the Children’s Services induction programme, contribute to recruitment assessment days, support workforce training needs analysis, and champion Bolton’s Practice Approach and Corporate Values.
Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of three years’ post-qualification statutory social work experience, ideally with supervisory or workforce development experience. Knowledge of the ILACS framework and relational and restorative practice approaches is essential.
