Job Description

Swindon Borough Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join its Leaving Care Service on a locum basis, based at the Civic Campus, Swindon (SN1 2JW). The rate is £28.28–£38.02 per hour, with a start date of 3 June 2026.

In this role you will manage a caseload of young people preparing to leave care, working alongside allocated Pathway Advisors who are co-located within the same service. The team engages early with young people transferring from other services, and you will lead on completing pathway plan assessments and drafting initial pathway plans. You will hold ongoing responsibility for maintaining and reviewing those plans in line with relevant legislation until each young person reaches 18, at which point they transfer fully to their Pathway Advisor. In addition to your caseload, you will contribute to the team’s duty rota, providing additional support to young people alongside Pathway Advisors.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience of leaving care, pathway planning, or looked-after children work is highly desirable.
