Job Description
Are you a dedicated children’s social worker with a passion for supporting young people through some of the most critical years of their lives? Knowsley’s Looked After Service is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join its Young Persons Team (14–18), based in Huyton, Merseyside, at a competitive rate of £23.75–£31.15 per hour.
This is a demanding, fast-paced role at the heart of children’s services, where you will hold a caseload of looked-after young people aged 14–18, many of whom face complex contextual safeguarding risks including exploitation, missing episodes, offending behaviour, and mental health concerns. You will develop and review care plans, undertake meaningful direct work, and lead on pathway planning as young people transition towards adulthood.
A relational, trauma-informed approach is fundamental to this team’s practice. You will build consistent, trusting relationships with young people who may be resistant to services, while maintaining robust risk management and safety planning across dynamic and ever-changing circumstances. Strong analytical skills and high-quality recording are essential, as is confidence in contributing to multi-agency forums, strategy discussions, and court processes.
You will be supported within a team culture that values shared responsibility, professional curiosity, and reflective practice. Partnership working with education, health, police, youth justice, and leaving care services forms a core part of the role.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience working with adolescents in high-risk, complex settings is essential.
If you are resilient, relationship-focused, and ready to make a real difference to young people’s lives, apply today.
