Job Description

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist to play a hands-on role in delivering a significant transformation programme at the heart of the Council’s commercial change agenda. Working in close partnership with PwC, the Council has developed 11 cross-council business cases focused on driving efficiencies, reducing third-party spend, and strengthening contract management. The first wave of delivery targets high-priority areas including Temporary Accommodation, Out-of-Borough Care Home placements, and Utilities.

The successful candidate will own category-level delivery, turning approved business cases into clear delivery plans with defined actions, owners, and timelines. You will coordinate inputs across services, finance, and programme teams; run weekly delivery stand-ups; manage risks and dependencies; and work directly with suppliers to negotiate pricing and improved contract terms. You will also support benefits tracking, governance reporting, and the embedding of Southwark’s Procurement and Contract Management Target Operating Model.

Candidates must bring proven experience in category management, complex programme delivery, and public sector procurement, alongside a strong track record of delivering savings from third-party spend. Knowledge of the Procurement Act 2023 and public sector governance is required. Strong stakeholder management, financial oversight skills, and a practical, delivery-focused approach are essential.

This is an interim role based at 160 Tooley Street, London SE1, with a day rate of £345.86–£481.82, commencing 29 June 2026. Apply now to be considered.
