Job Description
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is seeking a Library Service Support Assistant to join their Library Services team based on High Street, Merthyr Tydfil (CF47 8AF). This is a temporary role paying £96.57–£129.90 per day, starting 13 July 2026.
The successful candidate will assist the Principal Librarian, Operational Librarians, and Member Advisors in delivering a high-quality library service across the County Borough, contributing to the Welsh Public Library Standards.
Key responsibilities include manning issue and enquiry desks at Borough Libraries; answering and redirecting user enquiries; maintaining the sequence and condition of shelved books and materials; supporting the reservation, suggestion, and inter-library loan service; assisting ICT users in both group and individual settings; data input and record maintenance; and maintaining the cleanliness and general upkeep of the physical library environment, including the regular movement and filing of stock.
Candidates should be confident communicators with strong organisational and customer service skills, comfortable working in a public-facing environment and supporting a range of library users. Experience in a library, administrative, or customer service setting would be advantageous.
