Job Description

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a Legal Support Officer to join its Children’s Social Care Locality Services team in Bootle, Merseyside (L20 3NJ). Paying £14.07–£18.29 per hour via Prism, this role starts 18 May 2026.

The post exists to improve outcomes for children, young people and families in Sefton by preventing drift and delay in legal processes. You will coordinate compliance with court timescales and the Public Law Outline, track Court directions and orders, and produce regular performance reports for the Head of Service and senior management. Proceedings covered include Adoption, Fostering, and public and private Childcare matters.

Key duties include liaising with partner agencies to ensure timely information-sharing, attending Permanence Planning and panel meetings to identify system delays, supporting case transfer processes, and maintaining office management systems to ensure cases are presented to Family Court on time.

Essential requirements: relevant experience in a social care or legal setting; experience working to rigorous timescales; strong IT and organisational skills; effective communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to equal opportunities. Knowledge of the Public Law Outline is desirable. An enhanced DBS check is required.
