Job Description

An exciting interim opportunity has arisen for a Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) with Rochdale Local Authority, supporting statutory duties and responsibilities in relation to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This is a strategic, non-case-holding role in which you will play a pivotal part in supporting the wider Children’s Social Care Directorate. You will contribute to and quality assure Education, Health and Care Planning (EHCP) assessments, act as a senior advisor to Assistant Directors and Heads of Service on all matters relating to SEND legislation and practice, and identify gaps in service knowledge and expertise.

Key responsibilities include supporting the improvement and delivery of training and service design, contributing to de-escalation processes, and leading on key projects relating to children with complex needs. The post holder will drive quality assurance across EHCP processes and ensure legislative compliance throughout.

The successful candidate must be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England, and must possess in-depth knowledge of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice. Experience working at a senior level within children’s services and an established understanding of EHCP frameworks is essential. This role does not carry a caseload.

Based at Smith Street, Rochdale (OL16 1XU), this is a full-time interim post offering £46 per hour, running from 18th May to 31st July 2026.
