Job Description

Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join its brand-new Kinship Team, embedded within the Fostering Service. Based at Priory House, Shefford (hybrid working), this is a day-rate role paying £219.62–£293.89 per day, starting 7 September 2026.

As an Assessment Social Worker within the Kinship Team, you will assess and support kinship carers, guiding applicants through the fostering process and helping them develop therapeutic parenting approaches. You will complete a range of assessments including initial visits, Regulation 24 assessments, Special Guardianship Order (SGO) assessments, friends and family foster assessments, and Form F assessments. You will work closely with children’s social workers and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children, and contribute to shaping the Local Offer for kinship carers.

Candidates must be qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England, with experience in statutory social work and completing complex assessments. Prior experience of fostering assessments is a significant advantage. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will present reports to panels and liaise with partner agencies. Sound IT skills, resilience, and the ability to use initiative are also required.
