Job Description
Somerset Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the Family Safeguarding Team in Bridgwater, supporting children and families in the Sedgemoor locality. This is a temporary role paying £28.41–£38.00 per hour, starting 6 July 2026.
Working within Somerset’s Family Safeguarding Model, you will sit alongside social work colleagues and adult workers who specialise in supporting parents, taking a relational, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach to practice. You will hold a caseload of children with varying levels of need and complexity, undertaking child-centred assessments of risk and need, building meaningful relationships with children and families, and developing and reviewing care plans that reflect the child’s voice.
Key responsibilities include receiving and responding to referrals, delivering evidence-based interventions, completing statutory reviews, preparing court reports and written statements, and contributing to quality assurance processes. You will work in partnership with colleagues across Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership and the wider voluntary and independent sectors.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience in Child Protection and safeguarding teams.
