Job Description
Central Bedfordshire Council is recruiting experienced Social Workers for its Family Help Team, based in Shefford/Dunstable on a hybrid contract (37 hours per week, from £29.28 to £39.00 per hour). Starting 17 August 2026.
As part of Central Bedfordshire’s Families First journey, Social Workers in Family Help support children from assessment onwards, building meaningful relationships with families and creating lasting change. The team focuses on timely support, reducing the number of children entering local authority care, and progressing the service from its current Good Ofsted rating towards Outstanding.
Key responsibilities include managing a varied caseload covering Child in Need, Child Protection, and court work; completing direct work with children to understand their views and lived experiences; chairing multi-agency meetings; and producing high-quality assessments and reports.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. A minimum of five years post-qualifying experience is required, along with court experience, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a sound understanding of social work theories and models.
Please note: references must be uploaded to Matrix for review before interview will be offered.
