Job Description

Central Bedfordshire Council is recruiting experienced Social Workers for its Family Help Team, based at Monks Walk, Shefford (hybrid working across CBC offices and home). This is a 37-hour-per-week locum role paying £29.28–£39.00 per hour, starting 3 August 2026.

As part of Central Bedfordshire’s Families First journey, Social Workers in Family Help support children from assessment onwards, building meaningful relationships with families to create lasting change. The team focuses on timely support and reducing the number of children entering local authority care, with Central Bedfordshire currently rated Good by Ofsted and aspiring towards Outstanding.

Key responsibilities include managing a varied caseload covering Child in Need, Child Protection, and court work; completing direct work with children to understand their views and lived experiences; chairing multi-agency meetings; and producing high-quality assessments and reports.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of five years’ post-qualifying experience. Court experience is essential. A strong grasp of social work theories and models, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable children and families are all required.
