Job Description

Swindon Borough Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Children with Disabilities Team, based at the Civic Campus, Swindon (SN1 2JG). This is a locum opportunity paying £32.67–£42.00 per hour via Prism, commencing 17 July 2026.

The Disabled Children’s safeguarding and support team is co-located at the Saltway Centre alongside multi-agency partners, enabling a truly holistic service for disabled children, young people, and their families. Swindon recognises that disabled children are statistically more likely to experience abuse than their non-disabled peers, and has built a bespoke, specialist service in response — one staffed by highly motivated social workers with dual expertise in safeguarding and disability practice. The team draws on current research and innovative approaches to ensure disabled children are appropriately safeguarded and supported to reach their full potential.

You will need to be a qualified and registered Social Worker with demonstrable experience in children’s services, ideally with a background in disability and safeguarding. Social Work England registration is essential.

Swindon Borough Council has confirmed that a £100 weekly travel and accommodation allowance remains in place for all new and existing agency placements within Children’s Social Care until 31 August 2026. Workers must reside more than 50 miles from Swindon to qualify.
