Job Description
Somerset Council is seeking a Childrens Social Worker to join the Children Looked After Team based in Shepton Mallet, Mendip, covering a rare vacancy within a settled and supportive team. You will be allocated a mixed age range of children from 0 to 18, including some placed outside the local area, so regular travel is required (own vehicle and full driving licence essential). The team also holds Somerset’s dedicated remit for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC).
Key duties include building trusting, trauma-informed relationships with children and families, undertaking child-centred assessments, statutory home visits, care and pathway planning, and contributing to court and adoption work including life story books and later life letters. You will attend TAC and PEP meetings, maintain high-quality case records, and participate in duty work and service improvement initiatives.
You must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with the relevant professional regulatory body, alongside solid multi-agency working experience.
