Job Description

Oldham Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Children’s Social Worker to join one of four teams within the Children in Our Care Service in Oldham, on a full-time basis for an initial 3-month period covering a staff absence.

You will hold a caseload of up to 18 children and young people in local authority care, reviewing progress and developing care plans to best meet each individual’s needs. Teams are structured with one Team Manager, one Senior Practitioner, and up to six Social Workers.

The role operates on a hybrid model — 3 days office-based at George Street, Oldham (OL1 1HD) and 2 days working from home.

Requirements include a recognised social work qualification, registration with Social Work England, a minimum of 5 years’ references, and any relevant qualifications as specified in the Job Description and Person Specification. Candidates must complete the DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions prior to submission.

Rate: £39 per hour. Start: 28 September 2026. End: 6 November 2026.
