Job Description

Powys County Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the Care and Support Team based at Ladywell House, Newtown, Powys. This is an on-the-go role, with the post holder working across the county at various locations for the majority of their time.

The Care and Support Team works with children, young people, and their families where a Social Work assessment has identified a need for additional services. Caseloads include children in need of protection, care and support, families within the Public Law Outline (PLO) process, and those in court proceedings. The team has a mixed skill base of experienced Social Workers and Wellbeing Workers, supported by two Team Co-ordinators who assist with meeting organisation and minuting, chronology preparation, and general business support.

Key responsibilities include providing a social work service to children and young people to keep them safe and support them in achieving their fullest potential; undertaking duty on a rotational basis; identifying and managing risk; and working in partnership with colleagues and external agencies.

You will be skilled in strengths-based practice, confident in communicating with families in challenging and sometimes hostile circumstances, and creative in direct work with children to elicit their wishes and feelings.
