Job Description

South Tyneside Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Social Work Manager to join the Children with Disabilities Team, based at the Town Hall, South Shields (NE33 2RL). This is a key leadership role working alongside one other manager to oversee a team of social workers and family workers supporting children with additional needs.

The team carries a mixed caseload spanning Children in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Cared For children. You will provide regular reflective supervision and management oversight, ensure quality assurance and authorisation of work relevant to the service area, and attend — and at times chair — resource panel. You will be responsible for ensuring children’s care packages are reviewed annually and will use performance information to manage the team effectively, maintaining compliance with statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Substantial post-qualifying experience in children’s social care, including a proven background in management, is essential. Experience across CIN, CP, and Looked After Children is highly desirable, as is familiarity with children with disabilities.
