Job Description
Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Social Worker to join their Children’s Social Care service, based in Bootle, Merseyside. This is a locum position paying £26.87–£35.33 per hour via Prism, commencing 28 September 2026.
In this role you will hold and manage a complex and varied caseload spanning Children in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children, working within statutory frameworks including court proceedings. You will prepare written statements and representations to the judiciary, undertake Achieving Best Evidence interviews, and act as lead practitioner in multi-agency planning around families.
You will be expected to model critical reflection and evidence-based decision making, support the practice development of colleagues, and oversee social work students on placement. Strong skills in risk identification and assessment, direct work with children and families, and confident representation at multi-disciplinary forums are essential.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience across CIN, CP, and LAC work is required, along with the ability to manage a complex caseload with appropriate supervision.
