Job Description

The London Borough of Bexley is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Practitioner to join their Families First / Family Help Service, based at the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath (DA6 7AT). This is a temp role paying £29.40–£40.04 per hour via Prism, starting 20 July 2026.

Working within the Families First model, you will hold a reduced caseload of the most complex children and families requiring statutory intervention, spanning Child in Need, Child Protection, PLO, pre-proceedings, care proceedings and permanence. You will provide advanced safeguarding oversight, undertake complex assessments (including parenting, viability and permanence assessments), prepare court statements and present professional evidence in legal proceedings.

A key element of the role is professional leadership: you will lead pod supervision and monthly reflective practice groups, mentor NQSWs, ASYE practitioners and agency staff, and champion Signs of Safety, Trauma-Informed Practice and Motivational Interviewing across the pod. You will also support the Team Manager in quality assurance and complex decision-making, exercising a high level of professional autonomy.

Candidates must be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable senior-level experience in a statutory children’s setting. Experience of court work, complex safeguarding, multi-agency coordination and practice leadership is essential.
