Job Description

Bolton Council is seeking an experienced Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) to provide cover in Bolton (BL2 2JW) at a rate of £43–£45 per hour. This is a full-time role (37 hours per week) running from 20 June to 28 August 2026, with flexible hybrid working in place to meet service needs. Free on-site parking is available at Castleton Street, Tonge Moor.

The LADO plays a critical safeguarding role, responding promptly, effectively, and confidentially to allegations and concerns raised by organisations providing services to children. Working collaboratively with police, children’s social care, employers, and other professionals, the LADO oversees and guides investigations to ensure thoroughness, timeliness, and fairness — without conducting investigations directly. A key part of the role involves challenging and supporting agencies to take appropriate and timely steps to safeguard children from neglect and abuse by professionals, volunteers, and those in public office who have direct contact with or responsibility for children, consistent with legislation and statutory guidance.
