Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced Child Protection Conference Chair to join a close-knit, supportive team based in Stirchley, Birmingham (B30 3BN). This is a day-rate contract role paying £209.27–£286.37 per day, starting 27 July 2026.

As Principal Officer (Child Protection Chair), you will chair multi-agency Child Protection Conferences for some of Birmingham’s most vulnerable children and young people. Safety planning is underpinned by the Strengthening Families approach, ensuring that children’s voices and lived experiences remain central. You will uphold relationship-based, trauma-informed practice and challenge practitioners where required to drive consistently high standards.

The team fosters a genuine learning culture: reflective, accountable, and committed to continuous professional development. You will have access to specialist social care services, key resources, and robust multi-agency partnerships to support positive outcomes for children and families.

Requirements:
• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
• Extensive post-qualifying social work experience
• Previous Child Protection Conference Chair experience
• Sound knowledge of child protection processes and legislation
• Ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
• Management experience is desirable
