Childrens Advanced Practitioner – Assessment and Safeguarding Service – #5300784

July 14, 2026
£34 - £34 / hour

Job Description

Darlington Children’s Services are seeking an experienced Childrens Advanced Practitioner to join their Assessment and Safeguarding Service on an initial 6-month contract, with potential for extension.

Based at the Town Hall, DL1 5QT, this is a blended working role (37 hours per week) with office-based duty days and flexibility to work from home around diary needs. All IT and remote-working equipment is provided.

As Advanced Practitioner you will hold a caseload of children with complex needs, primarily under Child Protection, Children Looked After, and Care Proceedings. You will provide reflective supervision to newly qualified social workers or alternatively qualified Family Help Lead Practitioners, and deputise for the Team Manager — including managing intake duty decisions, case allocation, and chairing strategy or PLO meetings.

The service is currently piloting initiatives aligned with the Families First reforms and the move towards a Family Help model, making this an exciting time to join a service working towards a new operating vision.

Applicants must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in complex child and family work including CP, CLA, and Care Proceedings. The ability to travel and respond to urgent matters as they arise is essential.

Rate: £34.45 per hour. Start date: 26 July 2026. To apply or find out more, please get in touch with us today.
