Job Description

Salford City Council is recruiting an Adults Social Worker – Mental Health to join its Adult Social Care and Health Partnerships service, based at Prescott House CMHT, Little Hulton, Salford (M28 0ZA). This is a locum engagement running from 28 September to 1 December 2026 at £35 per hour.

This is a pivotal time for Adult Social Care in Salford, with a significant programme of change and integration under way. You will provide statutory, person-centred social work to adults of working age with mental health conditions, working across Mental Health Social Work services and the AMHP Hub. Key responsibilities include strengths-based assessment and care planning, adult safeguarding, risk management, and active contribution to integrated multi-disciplinary working with partners across the wider system.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) and current Social Work England registration. A solid working knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), and Mental Capacity Act 2005 is essential, as is prior experience working with adults presenting with mental health conditions. AMHP status is referenced in the grading (Grade 3C–4B).

Pre-placement requirements include three years of references, employment-gap checks, and verification of relevant qualifications. A DBS check is required.
