Job Description

Two Advanced Practitioner positions are available within the Assessment and Duty Teams at Barnsley Children’s Social Care, based at Wombwell Police Station. This is a contract role paying £37 per hour, running from 13 May to 1 September 2026.

Co-located with the police, the Assessment Teams complete assessments with children and families within 40 working days, working collaboratively to determine the right intervention. Once plans are agreed, families either close to Children’s Social Care or transfer to Early Help, relevant service areas, or long-term social work teams. The four teams rotate on a weekly duty rota — one week on duty allocation, three weeks focused on completing assessments and developing intervention plans. This is a short-term, fast-paced service with a strong emphasis on timely, quality assessments that consider both need and risk.

We are seeking passionate and driven practitioners who understand what good practice looks like and are confident working within a performance management framework. You will work at pace to ensure timely decision-making, always keeping the outcomes and lived experience of children in Barnsley at the centre of your work.

The working pattern is full-time. Hybrid working applies, with a minimum of three days in the office per week, rising to five days during the duty week (approximately once per month).
