The Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Unit in Cheshire West and Chester is seeking a suitably experienced person to provide cover as an Independent Reviewing Officer during the process of recruitment of a permanent IRO. A member of the team is leaving the post on 30.04.25. We are therefore looking for someone with experience of working as an IRO, who is able to start as soon as possible after 22.04.25. We are looking for cover for up to 12 weeks.

In Cheshire West and Chester the roles of IRO and CP Conference chair are split, so the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing the care plans of children in care and will not be expected to chair any CP conferences or LADO meetings. Candidates will need to be able to chair a mix of face to face and virtual reviews. The face to face reviews will take place in a range of placements and office locations across the local authority area, and may also include distant placements outside the local authority area. Candidates will also need to ensure appropriate contact with children before reviews and liaison with family members and other professionals as part of the review process.

You must have:

  • A professional qualification in social work and experience of working with Children’s

  • Social Work England registration.

  • Post qualified experience.

  • Enhanced DBS/Update service.

  • References required for the last 5 years of employment.
