Job Description
Bromley Council is seeking a Business Support Officer to join its Crisis & Resilience service, based at Churchill Court, Bromley (BR1 1AS). This is a temporary assignment paying £18.03–£23.47 per hour, starting 31 August 2026.
This role sits at the heart of Bromley’s financial hardship provision, assessing and administering funding applications from residents experiencing financial difficulty, instability or other challenges to their wellbeing. You will manage a personal caseload, making fair, evidence-based decisions in line with council policy whilst maintaining accurate, auditable records within required timescales.
Key responsibilities include responding to resident enquiries across telephone and email (including participation in a duty rota), identifying and escalating safeguarding concerns or fraud risks, producing basic Excel reports to support performance monitoring, and liaising with internal teams, voluntary sector partners and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for residents.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a customer-facing or casework-based environment, particularly within local government, welfare assistance, housing, revenues or benefits services. You should be comfortable applying policy criteria to reach consistent decisions, handling sensitive information with discretion, and communicating empathetically with vulnerable or distressed individuals. Competent use of Microsoft Excel and strong attention to detail are essential. An NVQ Level 3, A-Levels or equivalent experience in casework, customer service or a related field is required. DBS clearance may be required.
If you are available and meet the above criteria, please apply now.
