Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced social work leader to join Wrexham’s Family Support Team (FST) as an Assistant Team Manager, supporting the delivery of high-quality children’s social care across one of Wales’s most vibrant local authorities.

The Family Support Team holds responsibility for Care and Support Plans, Child Protection Plans, Public Law Outline cases, and taking matters to first court hearing. You will play a central role in supporting a substantial staff team comprising 15 Social Workers, 3 Social Care Assessors, and 3 Assistant Team Managers — helping to develop individuals, drive best practice, and ensure children in Wrexham are kept safe.

Working closely with the Team Manager, you will support the operational management of cases open to Children’s Social Care, ensuring robust support to families and children to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will bring strong leadership, sound knowledge of child protection frameworks, and the ability to inspire those around you.

Candidates must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work Wales, holding a BA in Social Work or equivalent, and will ideally carry experience at a senior or management level within children’s services. Knowledge of the All Wales Pledge is advantageous. The role is based at 31 Chester Street, Wrexham, LL13 8BG, and attracts a competitive rate of £31.06–£41.58 per hour via Prism.

Wrexham offers an excellent quality of life — from country parks and cultural venues to easy access to Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, the Welsh coastline, and Snowdonia.
