Job Description

Trafford Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker for a full-time or part-time vacancy within the South Community Mental Health Team in Trafford, based in Broadheath (WA14 5JF). This is a locum role paying £30 per hour, running from 22 June to 30 August 2026.

This is an exciting time to join as transformational community mental health work is underway, aiming to deliver right care, at the right place, at the right time. You will carry a caseload of adults with severe mental health problems, working within a Care Programme Approach underpinned by the social model of disability and a strengths-based, person-centred framework. Statutory duties are delivered in line with the Care Act 2014, MHA 1983, MCA 2005, and HRA 1998.

Day-to-day you will work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting service users to live as independently as possible, working holistically with individuals and their social networks. AMHPs are particularly welcome — AMHP status will be actively maintained through dedicated supervision, peer support, and access to the AMHP forum.

You will receive regular social work supervision, access to training from the Mental Health Trust and Trafford Council, invitations to Trafford’s Adult Social Care Forum, and strong links to the Principal Social Worker.

Candidates must be registered with Social Work England, hold a valid driving licence, and be able to provide 3 years of references. Flexibility to work on a rota covering 7 days per week, 9am–5pm, is required.
