Job Description

Middlesbrough Borough Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join a specialist team working with adults with learning disabilities, significant mental health needs, offending histories, or those at risk of contact with the criminal justice system. Based at Fountain Court, Middlesbrough (TS1 9FT), this is a 3-month locum contract paying £33.00 per hour, running from 5 July to 5 October 2026.

You will lead and coordinate complex social work interventions across a varied caseload, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, and criminal justice professionals. Key responsibilities include undertaking Care Act 2014 assessments, determining eligibility, developing strengths-based support plans, completing Mental Capacity Act 2005 assessments and best interest decisions, and playing a central role in Section 117 aftercare planning and discharge from secure and inpatient settings into the community.

The role demands skilled risk assessment and crisis response, delivered through a trauma-informed and recovery-focused approach, alongside active contribution to safeguarding, care planning, and legal frameworks. You will be supported by an experienced, collaborative team with regular supervision, professional guidance, and a strong culture of reflective practice and professional development.
