Job Description

Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking experienced Adults Social Workers to review and reshape its Carers Break Offer on a temporary basis from 29 June 2026, based at Priory House, Shefford (SG17 5TQ). Rate: £22.58–£30.00 per hour.

This is a focused, high-impact role sitting at the intersection of carer support, financial reform, and outcome-focused practice. You will carry out Care Act 2014-compliant Carers Assessments and Reviews using a strengths-based approach, right-sizing support arrangements to align with assessed eligible need and ensuring proportionate, legally defensible decision-making. A key strand of the work involves transitioning carers from a voucher-based system to Direct Payments and pre-paid cards, working closely with the council’s Direct Payments and Brokerage Teams to ensure care packages reflect value for money and sit within budget frameworks.

You will manage sensitive conversations where services may change or reduce, balancing empathy with rigour and maintaining accurate, timely case recording on the care management database.

Essential requirements: registration with Social Work England (SWE); excellent assessment and analytical skills; sound, evidence-based decision-making; strong communication and negotiation skills; and the ability to manage a high-volume caseload.
