Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Social Care service, based in Birkenhead (CH41 2YA). This is a temporary locum role paying £27.98–£36.08 per hour via Prism, starting 20 July 2026.

You will support the delivery of health and social care functions for adults and carers across Wirral, working within the Personalisation and Inclusion Pathways and embedding the Care Act 2014, strength-based and asset-based practice. Your caseload will cover complex needs across older people, physical and mental health, and learning disabilities, including needs-led assessments, care and support planning, safeguarding enquiries, Best Interest Assessments under the Mental Capacity Act, and representation at multi-disciplinary and strategy meetings.

You will contribute to the duty function within the Review Team, support MASH, MARAC and MAPPA processes, and provide supervision and practice support to NQSWs and Care Navigators. Hybrid working is available, with an expectation to attend community settings and work flexibly where service needs require.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW or equivalent), be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable post-qualifying experience in adult statutory social work. A Best Interest Assessor or Practice Educator qualification is desirable.
