Job Description

Darlington Borough Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Community Team (ACT), based at the Town Hall, Darlington (DL1 5QT). This is a locum role paying £197.74 per hour, starting 3 August 2026.

Working alongside social workers, community assessment officers, and occupational therapists under the guidance of a team manager and senior practitioners, you will contribute to two core functions. The front door element involves responding to initial contacts into Adult Social Care — including requests for needs assessments, safeguarding enquiries, advice and information, and urgent or crisis situations. The short-term casework element provides focused social work intervention for up to 16 weeks with adults aged 18+ presenting with a range of complex needs across the Darlington area. You will work proactively with service users, their families, carers, and other professionals. The majority of these roles are based on the casework side of ACT, with some support to front door provision as required.

To be considered, you must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience in adult community social work, needs assessment, and safeguarding is essential.
