Job Description

Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Senior Practitioner to join its Community Mental Health Team, based at The Rhymney Integrated Health and Social Care Centre in Caerphilly. This is a locum role paying £28.11–£37.09 per hour, commencing 3 August 2026.

Working within a multidisciplinary community mental health team, you will deliver Care and Treatment Planning to adults requiring community-based health and social care, promoting independence, dignity, and recovery. You will carry out holistic assessments of need and risk, co-ordinate care plans, and work closely with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and a broad range of statutory and third-sector partners.

A key element of the role is fulfilling the duties of an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in accordance with the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Code of Practice, including participation in the daytime AMHP rota. You will also provide enhanced expertise to support and develop less experienced colleagues, and contribute to service development and continuous professional development.

Essential requirements include a Diploma or Degree in Social Work (or equivalent), registration as a Social Worker with Social Care Wales (or equivalent UK council), AMHP qualification, and a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience in adult mental health social work. Experience of Care and Treatment Planning, risk assessment, and AMHP practice is required. Welsh language skills are desirable.
