Job Description

Somerset Council is recruiting an Adults Advanced Practitioner to provide professional leadership and expert practice across Adult Social Care in Taunton. This is a senior, operationally focused role working within a locality or neighbourhood team, reporting to a Safeguarding Service Manager.

The postholder will support adults to remain independent in their communities, facilitate timely hospital discharge, and lead on complex casework across a range of service areas including Neighbourhoods, Intermediate Care, Mental Health Social Care, Community Learning Disabilities, Hospital Interface, Safeguarding, and Preparing for Adulthood.

Key responsibilities include providing high-quality reflective supervision to up to seven qualified social workers, leading on safeguarding adults practice, undertaking and overseeing complex assessments and reviews under the Care Act 2014, supporting Court of Protection applications, and contributing to audit, quality assurance, and service development.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification with current Social Work England registration, and demonstrate extensive post-qualifying experience in adult services including work with people with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities, dementia, or long-term conditions. Evidence of continued professional development and experience supporting staff with complex casework are essential.

The role is based at The Crescent, Taunton (TA1 4DY) and is offered on a locum basis at £32.13–£44.00 per hour, available from 6 July 2026. Contact us today to find out more or to register your interest.
