Job Description
Calderdale Council is seeking an experienced Homelessness Prevention Officer to join its front-line Housing Options team in Halifax. This is a temporary role running from 7 September to 19 October 2026, paying £13.59–£13.69 per hour.
You will interview customers presenting as homeless or in housing need, complete statutory assessments, and develop personalised housing plans in line with Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. You will carry a caseload of clients and undertake hands-on prevention work — negotiating with landlords, parents and other parties, advocating across a range of organisations, and producing required written documentation including decision letters.
Building effective relationships with partner agencies, housing providers, voluntary organisations and community groups will be central to your work, ensuring strong referral routes and better outcomes for households at risk.
A sound knowledge of homelessness legislation is essential, including prevention and relief duties and the statutory requirements of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. Experience of carrying a caseload and working proactively with households in housing need is required.
Based at Customer First, 19 Horton Street, Halifax HX1 1QE. To be considered, please apply with an up-to-date CV as soon as possible.
