Job Description

Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Senior Practitioner to join a Community Mental Health Team based at The Rhymney Integrated Health and Social Care Centre. This is a substantive interim opportunity at £28.11–£37.09 per hour, starting 14 September 2026.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will deliver community-based mental health services through the Care and Treatment Planning framework, supporting adults to maximise independence, dignity, and recovery. You will hold a complex caseload, assess need and risk, co-ordinate care plans across statutory and third-sector partners, and provide an enhanced level of practice expertise to less experienced colleagues.

The post carries the AMHP role: you will fulfil AMHP duties under the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice (Wales), and participate in the daytime AMHP rota. A minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience in adult mental health social work is required, along with proven AMHP practice experience.

Essential requirements: Diploma or Degree in Social Work (or equivalent); AMHP qualification; registration with Social Care Wales (or equivalent UK social care regulatory body). Knowledge of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014 and Mental Health Act 1983, including Welsh secondary legislation, is expected. Welsh language skills are desirable.
