Job Description
Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Senior Practitioner to join their Community Mental Health Team, based in Caerphilly (CF83). This is a locum opportunity paying £28.11–£37.09 per hour via Prism, starting 14 September 2026.
Working within a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team, you will deliver care and treatment planning to adults requiring community-based health and social care support, maximising independence, dignity, and recovery. You will carry out complex needs and risk assessments, co-ordinate care plans across statutory and third-sector stakeholders, and fulfil the role of Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in accordance with the Mental Health Act 1983 and its Code of Practice. You will also provide an enhanced level of practice expertise and support the development of less experienced colleagues, including social work and AMHP students.
The team works closely with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, housing, police, probation, and community resources across Caerphilly County Borough. The role requires a flexible approach, including availability across a seven-day rota and lone working in community settings.
Essential requirements: Diploma or Degree in Social Work (or equivalent); AMHP qualification; registration with Social Care Wales (or equivalent UK regulatory body); minimum two years post-qualifying experience in adult mental health social work; experience of AMHP practice and risk management in mental health settings.
