Job Description

Somerset Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join its Learning Disabilities team in Taunton, Somerset. This is a community-facing role working with adults with learning disabilities, carrying a caseload of varying complexity and working closely with health, housing, and voluntary sector partners.

You will undertake needs and risk assessments, develop and review care plans, manage referrals, and support service users to maintain independence and remain safe from harm. The role involves statutory reviews, Court of Protection applications where appropriate, and contributing to multi-agency joint working arrangements. A vehicle and valid driving licence are essential.

Essential requirements: a recognised social work qualification (BA or MA in Social Work or equivalent) and current registration with Social Work England. Experience within adult social care multi-disciplinary settings is required, with knowledge of relevant legislation and Social Work England practice standards. Supervisory experience and prior work with people with learning disabilities are desirable.

The role is offered on a temporary basis at £27.78–£38.00 per hour, based at The Crescent, Taunton (TA1 4DY), with a start date of 24 August 2026. To express interest or find out more, please get in touch with our team today.
