Job Description

Darlington Borough Council is seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join their Learning Disabilities team, based at the Town Hall, Darlington (DL1 5QT). This is a temporary role commencing 3 August 2026 at a rate of £197.74 per day.

Working with adults who have a diagnosis of Learning Disabilities, you will carry out person-centred assessments of need with individuals and their carers, identifying eligible needs whilst applying a positive approach to risk. You will work alongside individuals, families and communities to support informed decision-making, promote independence and well-being, and facilitate access to universal, targeted and specialist services.

Key responsibilities include conducting high-quality assessments in line with national and local requirements, developing and maintaining effective relationships with individuals, families and carers, providing advice and support, and promoting early intervention. You will liaise with colleagues across departments and external agencies to ensure effective partnership working, maintain accurate case records and reports, and give court evidence where required. Suitably qualified practitioners may also be required to undertake Best Interest Assessments.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience in adult Learning Disabilities is essential. Please get in touch to find out more or to be considered for this opportunity.
