*Childrens Social Worker – Fostering – #000B3DCA1

July 27, 2026
£35 - £35 / hour

Job Description

Wigan Council (GM Collaboration) is seeking an experienced Childrens Social Worker with a fostering specialism to join their Fostering service, based at Wigan Life Centre South, Wigan. This is a locum role running from 24 August to 19 October 2026, paying £35 per hour via XMS.

You will work as a supervising social worker within the recruited fostering teams, with a primary focus on completing full foster carer assessments and seeing them through to panel — covering both newly recruited carers and those undergoing their first annual review. You will also provide duty support across the recruited fostering teams and are expected to be office-based for a proportion of the working week.

Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising foster carers, supporting the fostering duty function, working within required timescales, maintaining data compliance, attending relevant training and meetings, and contributing to recruitment, retention, and training activities as needed. The teams are busy and the post holder should be flexible to support across recruited teams where required.

To be considered you will need to be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience as a supervising social worker in fostering, including Form F assessments and panel experience. Contact us today to express your interest.
