Family Support Worker – Children’s Social Care – #OR107853

July 8, 2026
£17 - £23 / hour

Job Description

Sefton MBC is seeking an experienced Family Support Worker to join their Children’s Social Care service, based at Trinity Road, Bootle, L20 3NJ. Paying £17.37–£22.68 per hour, this role starts 27 July 2026.

You will provide practical and social support to children, young people and families across a broad caseload including Children in Need, Child Protection and Looked After Children. Working with children aged 0–25, you will contribute to ongoing assessments, care planning and reviews, undertake direct work in family homes and the community, and promote and facilitate contact with birth families. You will identify and assess levels of risk and need, provide crisis intervention where required — including overnight stays to prevent accommodation — and support qualified social workers during Section 47 enquiries.

Other duties include home visits, welfare checks, signposting families to additional services, contributing to court-directed work, and maintaining high-quality records on the council’s children’s database. You will work both independently and as part of a team, in partnership with statutory, voluntary, community and faith organisations.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in a children’s social care or family support setting, a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and child development, and the ability to communicate confidently across a range of situations. This is a non-qualified role; a formal social work qualification is not required.

To be considered, please apply with an up-to-date CV as soon as possible.
