Job Description

An experienced Childrens Senior Social Worker is sought to join the Complex Care Needs Team in Wakefield, covering maternity leave until February 2027. Based in Normanton (WF6), the role is offered at £35 per hour via XMS.

This specialist service supports children and young people aged 0–18 with complex health needs and disabilities. You will manage a varied caseload of approximately 20–25 cases, spanning Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Children in Care (CIC), while working in close partnership with the Short Breaks Team. The team operates on a relationship-based practice model, offering a more planned and less reactive environment than frontline locality teams.

The team currently comprises six practitioners and is undergoing a wider restructure as part of social care reforms. Caseloads are fully allocated with no significant backlog, and many cases require lower-frequency visits, allowing workloads to be managed effectively.

Hybrid working applies, with approximately two office-based duty days per week and flexibility for home-based admin. Full-time candidates are preferred, though condensed hours may be considered. Availability on Fridays is a core requirement.

Strong statutory social work skills are essential; experience with children with disabilities is advantageous but not required, as specialist training will be provided. Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
