Attendance Support Officer – Education Social Work – #OR107503

July 6, 2026
£15 - £19 / hour

Job Description

Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking an Attendance Support Officer to join the Education and Early Intervention Department’s Education Social Work team, based across schools and the Learning Centre at Whitegate, Wrexham (LL11 1AR). Rate: £14.82–£19.22 per hour, starting 1 September 2026.

This is a community-facing role at the heart of improving school attendance across the county borough. You will work directly with pupils and their families to remove barriers to education, completing home visits, running Attendance Improvement Plans (AIPs), and making referrals to partner agencies. You will conduct attendance audits in schools, advise senior management teams on findings, and contribute to multiagency meetings including TAC, pastoral support plan, and reintegration meetings.

Key responsibilities include daily home visits, safeguarding awareness and referral to Children’s Services as required, liaising with third-sector providers, and supporting the Youth Justice Prevention team where appropriate. You will manage detailed case records and produce data and reports for Estyn inspection purposes.

Candidates should have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above and ideally a Level 4 qualification in a relevant discipline (youth and community work, health and social care, or equivalent). Experience working with vulnerable young people in educational settings, knowledge of attendance legislation, and competency in ICT and data management are essential. The ability to travel independently across the county borough is required. Welsh language skills are desirable.

If you have experience supporting hard-to-reach families and improving school attendance outcomes, please get in touch.
