Job Description

Powys County Council is seeking a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join their Assessment Team, based at Ladywell House, Newtown, Powys (SY16 1EG). This is a locum role paying £28.35–£37.14 per hour via Prism, available from 10 August 2026 with no specified end date.

Powys is a large, predominantly rural local authority covering a wide geographic area across mid-Wales, so candidates must be comfortable travelling across the county. The description includes a distance matrix covering key towns including Newtown, Welshpool, Llandrindod Wells, Brecon, Builth Wells, Knighton, Llanidloes, Machynlleth, and others — indicating that travel across the patch is a routine part of the role.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience in children’s assessment work is essential.
