Job Description

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Interim Fire Safety Surveyor (Tier 2) based at 160 Tooley Street, SE1, to support fire safety compliance across a diverse residential, commercial, and mixed-use property portfolio. The role runs from 27 July 2026 at a day rate of £269.18–£375.00 via Prism.

You will conduct and review Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) to recognised industry standards, identify deficiencies, recommend remedial actions, and prioritise risk mitigation. Responsibilities include fire safety inspections and audits, providing technical guidance to internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders, monitoring remedial works, maintaining compliance documentation, and supporting regulatory inspections and enforcement actions.

Compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, Building Safety Act 2022, and relevant British Standards (including BS 9999) is central to the role.

Candidates must hold a recognised Fire Risk Assessment qualification (Level 3 or Level 4 Certificate or equivalent) and have demonstrable experience undertaking FRAs across a range of building types, including higher-risk residential buildings. Strong report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential. A full UK driving licence is required if travel between sites is needed.

Desirable attributes include membership of IFE or IFSM, experience within local authorities or housing associations, knowledge of passive fire protection and compartmentation surveys, familiarity with CAFM software, and the ability to mentor junior surveyors.
