Special Projects Contract Manager – Building Safety & External Wall Systems – #OR106090

June 22, 2026
£323 - £450 / day

Job Description

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Special Projects Contract Manager to lead the delivery and management of high-risk, safety-critical contracts relating to external wall systems (EWS) across a large residential portfolio. Based at 160 Tooley Street, SE1, this is a contract role paying £323.02–£450.00 per day, anticipated to run for approximately one year from 13 July 2026.

You will oversee exploratory and investigative works — including full FRAEWs, spandrel panel investigations, render and facade assessments, and Fire Risk Assessments — ensuring building safety compliance, effective risk mitigation, and robust remediation strategies. Key responsibilities span end-to-end procurement (Gateway 1 and 2 reports, specification development, tendering, contract award and mobilisation), commercial and financial oversight, contractor performance management against KPIs, and legal recovery work in partnership with legal teams pursuing claims against contractors and developers responsible for defective EWS.

You will also lead on applications to the Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS) and other funding streams, coordinate technical documentation for funding bids, and engage with residents, consultants, senior leadership, and elected members.

Ideal candidates will bring significant contract management experience within construction, housing, or building safety; a strong understanding of external wall systems and fire safety regulations including PAS 9980; proven experience managing complex, high-risk programmes at scale; and knowledge of remediation funding schemes including the Building Safety Fund.

To be considered, please apply with an up-to-date CV detailing your relevant experience.
