Job Description

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Fire Safety Advisor for a specialist interim role focused on external wall systems and building safety risks across a large residential portfolio. Based at 160 Tooley Street, SE1, this is potentially a one-year contract paying £358.91–£500.00 per day via Prism, starting 13 July 2026.

You will provide expert technical leadership on fire safety matters, acting as subject matter expert on external wall systems (EWS) and fire risk in line with PAS 9980. Key responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting Full FRAEWs, Fire Risk Assessments, facade and cladding investigations, and spandrel panel and cavity barrier assessments, then translating findings into clear remediation recommendations.

The role spans programme support and oversight across multiple high-risk residential buildings, compliance and assurance against the Building Safety Act, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, and PAS 9980, as well as providing technical input into legal claims relating to defective external wall systems. You will also support applications to the Cladding Safety Scheme and other funding streams, and liaise with consultants, fire engineers, regulatory bodies, senior management, and residents.

Candidates should have a strong background in fire safety within housing, construction, or building safety, in-depth knowledge of EWS and fire risk assessment methodologies, and experience reviewing complex technical reports. The ability to translate technical issues into clear, actionable advice is essential.
