Job Description
An exciting interim opportunity has arisen with the London Borough of Lambeth for a Child in Need (CIN) Reviewing Officer within the Family Support and Child Protection Service, based at 6 Brixton Hill, London SW2 1RW. The rate is £300 per day (Umbrella/Ltd), available from 28 July 2026.
In this independent oversight role, you will chair and facilitate Child in Need review meetings for children and families receiving services under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989. You will ensure plans are child-focused and outcome-driven, monitor progress, challenge drift and delay, and escalate concerns where safeguarding risks are not being appropriately managed.
Key responsibilities include: chairing CIN reviews in line with statutory requirements; ensuring the child’s voice is central to all decision-making; providing independent scrutiny of plans and assessments; identifying cases requiring escalation to Child Protection or legal planning; working collaboratively with social workers, health, education, police, and partner agencies; and producing accurate, timely review records and management information.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent) and be registered with Social Work England. Significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding and CIN casework, and experience of chairing professional multi-agency meetings are essential. Experience in quality assurance, reviewing, or independent oversight is highly desirable.
